The main theme of this composition was created on a clear, starry night on the 10th of August. While writing it, the Italian composer Angela Ciampani was inspired by her son Lorenzo and the sight of stars over the green hills of Umbria. Initially, it was a short solo for trumpet and piano: subsequently, Jacob de Haan extended and rewrote the composition for euphonium solo and band. This arrangement was created for the celebration of the 170th and 20th anniversaries, respectively, of the concert bands of Monteleone d'Orvieto and Citt della Pieve.Het hoofdthema van deze compositie werd gecreëerd in de nacht van 10 augustus, een van die heldere nachten met sterren die zachtjes vallen om de dromen niet te wekken. De Italiaanse componiste Angela Ciampani werd bij het schrijven ervan ge nspireerd door haar zoon Lorenzo en de sporen van vallende sterren verspreid over de groene heuvels van Umbrië. In eerste instantie betrof het een korte solo voor trompet en piano, vervolgens heeft Jacob de Haan de compositie uitgebouwd en herschreven voor euphoniumsolo en blaasorkest. Was ursprünglich als kurzes Solostück für Trompete und Klavier konzipiert war, wurde später von Jacob de Haan erweitert und für Solo-Euphonium und Blasorchester neu geschrieben. Der Anlass hierfür waren die Feiern zum 170. und 20. Jubiläum der Blasorchester von Monteleone d'Orvieto bzw. Citt dellaPieve. A l’origine, l’œuvre consistait en un court solo pour trompette et piano : par la suite, Jacob de Haan a étendu et réécrit la composition pour euphonium solo et harmonie l’occasion de la célébration des 170e et 20e anniversaires des orchestres de Monteleone d’Orvieto et de Citt della Pieve respectivement.

Sbandiamo! is a joyous—and swinging—work, taking its title from the wind music event held annually in the medieval Italian city of Gubbio, Umbria in which various bands from all over Italy participate. The first performance of this piece was given at the Piazza Grande, Gubbio, under the baton of the composer himself, with a wind band of some 250 musicians. A stately introduction, with festive percussion, is followed by a catchy theme in alternating pop and march rhythms. The opening theme then returns as a marcia cantabile, and the work is brought to a grand and compelling conclusion.Sbandiamo! is zowel een vreugdevol als swingend werk. De titel verwijst naar het gelijknamige blaasmuziekevenement in de middeleeuwse stad Gubbio in Umbrië (Italië). Daar klonk op de Piazza Grande de première met een blaasorkest bestaande uit ongeveer 250 musici, onder leiding van de componist. Auf die majestätische Einleitung mit festlichem Schlagwerk folgt ein eingängiges Thema mit wechselnden Posp- und Marschrhythmen. Sbandiamo! Il tema iniziale ritorna poi come una marcia cantabile e il brano si avvia ad una grande ed irresistibile conclusione.

Filadelfia is a small town in the province of Vibo Valentia in the southern Italian region of Calabria. In 1783 the town suffered a devastating earthquake. This work depicts the events before and after the disaster, and starts peacefully, with dance-like music sounding in the streets. After this the earthquake destroys everything, causing deep despair. In the end, the town is being rebuilt, which calls for a festive celebration! Filadelfia is een klein stadje in de provincie Vibo Valentia in de Zuid-Italiaanse regio Calabrië. In 1783 vond hier een verwoestende aardbeving plaats. Dit werk beschrijft de situatie voor en na deze ramp: eerst horen we dansrijke melodieën in de straten, maar daarna vaagt de aardbeving alles weg en klinkt er wanhoop door in de muziek. Uiteindelijk wordt het plaatsje herbouwd en dat is dan weer reden voor feestelijke klanken! Filadelfia ist eine kleine Stadt in der Provinz Vibo Valentia in der süditalienischen Region Kalabrien. 1783 gab es in der Stadt ein verheerendes Erdbeben. Das Werk beschreibt die Ereignisse vor und nach der Katastrophe. Es beginnt mit einer tanzartigen Musik, die in den Straßen dieses friedlichen Ortes erklingen. Das Erdbeben zerstört alles und verursacht eine große Verzweiflung.
